“What’s in a name?” Shakespeare once said. A lot apparently, especially when it comes to your startup. You could make things boring and just name the company after you. However, where is the fun in that? According to several research papers, 77% of the people are attracted to a particular brand based on its name. If you are working toward starting your business, here are some tips you could use!

1. Think of a name capable of conveying your core message

The name you pick for your company signifies the identity of your company. From visiting cards to logos to websites, this name is going to appear everywhere. So when you pick a name, make sure it’s the one with the strongest impact. Furthermore, your name should directly be in sync with the core message your company conveys. Pick a name you will not regret later on in life.

2. Get the right domain name

We live in a digital world where everything is on the internet. When registering yourself online, make sure you pick the dot com domain. This particular domain has a far greater value than the multiple others like .net, .org or .biz as these domains have lesser reach. When you are registering yourself, the website you pick could make or break your company. The lesson here? Choose a domain name that makes the most sense!

3. Say it out loud and make sure it sounds catchy! 

Catchy names stay remembered for a longer time. From your employees to your business partners, everyone should want to say the name out loud and this is where your skills as a boss are also brought to the fore! The catchier the name, the stronger it resonates and the better it works for you and your business.

4. Do a market search 

Most people usually tend to ask their friends or family members for advice on the name they have picked. If you are going down that road, do not! It is a bad idea. Getting feedback from your friends and/or family members may not be helpful because they may praise your idea even if they do not like it as they do not want to offend you.

5. Make sure you are satisfied by the name

You have done the research. You have narrowed down on a final list and you are just about to pick the best from the top three names. Think about the name which makes you the happiest as an owner. Do not zero in on the final name till you have said it out loud and driven everyone mad with the name. When the name you pick makes you smile every time you say it, you know you finally have a winner!

Picking a name is a tricky business. You do not want to choose one similar to an already existing company name and neither do you want to pick one that makes absolutely no sense. 1. Show your clients your human side

More often than not, one of the biggest mistakes a company makes is the way you approach your clients. Have a human touch to your messages and make sure people understand what you are saying.

2. Show your clients you trust them as well

One of the primary things to learn about trust is, it has to be earned. You need to let the other person know you trust them as well and that can only be done if you put everything about you as a company on the table. It is also important to know that your clients are not stupid. They know what they are doing and saying, so make sure you give them the benefit of doubt in these cases.

3. Stick to your commitments

The moment your clients realise you are a company which sticks to your word, trust is not far off. If you can’t keep to your commitment, then explain the situation and let your client know why something didn’t happen as planned. The more you give your client an insight into your ways of working, the more validation you get from the client. Always a good rule of thumb for building trust!

4. Display competence

When you show your clients you are in the business for the long run, one of the key ways to do that is by displaying competence. Know what you are talking about and when you don’t, understand the situation and get complete clarity on what is happening. Make sure you are completely honest about what you are saying because while people can understand lack of knowledge, a lie is harder to forgive.

5. Value feedback

While you may know what you are saying and doing as a company, it is important to understand the other person is only saying what they are because they have constructive feedback. The feedback may be obtained in the form of a quick survey or through pointers received from the client. Take what makes sense to your business and let your client know you appreciate what they have to say in a manner which does not come off as defensive.

6. Create an experience

Treat your clients in a way which lets them know they have your complete attention. Always remember the saying, “Marketers don’t make the brand, people do.” Make every interaction with your client memorable, in a manner that ensures longevity in memory!
