With freelance work, it is extremely important to get a down payment on everything you do. Getting a down payment beforehand will help you protect yourself from becoming a victim of fraud. Try to get at least 50% of the total payment prior to the start of the project and the last 50% before you send the finished product to your client. Do not send any of your work unless you are fully paid to avoid the risk of being swindled.
3. Treat your clients well
You know how they say “the customer is always right?” The saying is extremely true! Even more so with people who offer you freelance work. Build a relationship with your client and maintain it because you never know what kind of work you get in the future client! A happy client is always a satisfied client1
4. Learn to say no
Saying no for freelance work can be tricky. While you may not get so much work all the time, you still have to say no. Just because its easy pay does not mean that you do anything and everything that comes your way! If you aren’t comfortable with the project, do not take it up. You’ll just end up doing a bad job and that is not good for you or your client. So learn to say no!
5. Be transparent with your client
From a client’s perspective, if I were to hire you to provide a service, I would want to know who I’m giving my money to. So be sure to inject who you are into your brand. You can shape that however you’d like, but the key is to be personable. Transparency is the key to success and that will definitely go a long way in your career!
