Pepsi with its iconic red and blue logo is one of the most well known brands in the world.  Pepsi has a presence in almost every country on the planet and along with rival Coca-Cola, accounts for the majority of soft drinks and beverages sold in supermarkets.  Pepsico was originally used to be called as Pepsi-Cola and the change to the new name only happened when a merger between Pepsi-Cola Company and Frito Lays took place in 1965.  However, Pepsi did not just become a leading Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) brand in the world with just its soft drink brands but rather with making clever brand acquisitions over the years.

Pepsi: 

The original Pepsi product behind the iconic brand is a carbonated soft drink developed in 1893 by Caleb Bradham as Brad’s Drink and was later renamed to Pepsi-Cola in 1898.

Mountain Dew: 

Mountain dew is another iconic carbonated and caffeinated soft drink well known for its citrus flavour and its fluorescent green packaging.  Mountain Dew was developed in the 1940’s and its formula was revised over the years with the final revision happening in 1961 after which Pepsi acquired the brand.

Lay’s: 

Lay’s is the leading manufacturer of packaged potato chips in the world.  Lay’s has been owned by PepsiCo through Frito-Lay since 1965.  Each country has its own local flavoured Lay’s potato chips which are based on popular flavours relevant to the country.

Quaker Foods: 

The name Quaker immediately brings to mind the famous breakfast food, Quaker Oats, which is a leading cereal and breakfast food brand in the United States of America.  Quaker Foods has been owned by Pepsico since 2001.

Gatorade: 

Gatorade is a famous sports drink which was originally made by the University of Florida for Gators, its athletic team, to replenish the carbohydrates that the school’s student athletes burned and the combination of water and electrolytes that they lost in sweat.  The Gatorade brand was purchased by the Quaker Oats Company in 1983, which, in turn, was bought by PepsiCo.  An interesting fact is Pepsico purchased Quaker Foods primarily for the Gatorade brand.

Tropicana: 

Tropicana is a famous bottle fruit juice beverage and was founded in 1947 before being acquired by Pepsico in 1998.  Tropicana is hugely famous for its Orange juice which is easy to find in retail stores across the world.

7 Up:

7 Up is another iconic carbonated soft drink brand which has a lemon-lime flavoured base and is a non-caffeinated drink.  7 Up is also considered as a direct alternative to Coca-Cola’s Sprite drink.  7 Up is famous for its brand mascot, Fido Dido.

Aquafina: 

Aquafina is a purified bottled water product which is owned by Pepsico.  Aquafina FlavorSplash is a flavoured, non carbonated and artificially sweetened line of products which come under six flavours.  Aquafina competes directly with Coca-Cola’s Dasani brand of bottled water.

Cheetos:

Cheetos is a famous brand of snacks manufactured by Frito Lay’s and is a hugely popular American snack.  Cheetos is known for its Flamin Cheetos which formed the basis for the Kurkure brand which is widely popular in India and owned by Pepsico.

Doritos: 

Doritos are flavoured tortilla chips sold in packets by Frito Lays. The original Doritos were not flavored. The first Doritos flavor was Toasted Corn, released in 1966, followed by Taco in 1967 and Nacho Cheese in 1972.

Nestle is a name which almost everyone around the world would know as it has a brand presence in almost every country on the planet.  Nestle is based out of picturesque Switzerland and is also the world’s largest food company, operating in 189 countries and employing almost 3,40,00 people worldwide.  Over the years Nestle gave the world some beloved brands which have integrated into daily lifestyles like Maggi and Nescafe.  It is almost impossible to imagine life without a piping hot bowl of Maggi noodles in India.  This leading fast moving consumer goods (FMCG,) brand also has many more famous brands to its name.  We bring to you ten of the most famous and well known brands Nestle owns and operates.

1) Maggi

One of the most iconic brands in the world and especially in the middle Eastern and Asian countries, Maggi has truly integrated into the daily lifestyles of people from all socioeconomic classes in countries like India and Bangladesh.  Maggi is a brand which makes seasonings, soups and noodles which originated in Switzerland and was founded by Julius Maggi in 1897.  Nestle acquired Maggi in 1947 and has not looked back ever since.

2) Nescafe

Another of the iconic brands from the house of Nestle is Nescafe, which is an amalgamation of the words Nestle and cafe.  Nescafe is a brand of coffee which comes in both powders and ready to consume packaging.  The powders which come in multiple flavours just need to be mixed in hot water for consumption.  Nestle introduced Nescafe in 1938 although Nestle began developing the coffee brand in 1930, at the initiative of the Brazilian government, to help to preserve the substantial surplus of the annual Brazilian coffee harvest.

3) Milo

Milo is a popular chocolate malt drink which is made by Nestle and is extremely popular in Southeast Asian countries.  Most commonly sold as a powder in a green tin, often depicting various sporting activities, Milo is available as a premixed beverage in some countries and has been subsequently developed into a snack bar and breakfast cereal. 

4) Perrier

Perrier is a brand of mineral water bottled and sold by Nestle all over the world.  Perrier is best known for its naturally occurring carbonation, distinctive green bottle, and higher levels of carbonation than its peers.  Perrier was part of the Perrier Vittel Group SA, which became Nestlé Waters France, after the acquisition of the company by Nestlé in 1992.  It is interesting to note that The spring from which Perrier water is sourced is naturally carbonated.

5) Nestea

Nestea is a Swiss brand of iced tea and cold beverage solutions owned by Nestlé, manufactured by The Coca-Cola Company and distributed by Nestlé’s beverage department worldwide.  Nestea is a joint venture between The Coca-Cola Company and Nestlé and competes with Lipton Ice Tea.

8) Cerelac

Cerelac is a brand of instant cereal made by Nestle and is promoted for infants 6 months and older as a supplement to breast milk when it is no longer the sole item in an infant’s diet.  Cerelac was developed by Henri Nestle to reduce infant mortality in the 1860s.  He invented Infant Cereals using existing nutritional science and technology and the first product was called Farine Lactée and is believed to have saved the life of a premature baby boy named Wanner.

9) Milky Bar

Another famous brand of chocolate owned by Nestle, Milkybar is a white chocolate which is sold worldwide and was developed in 1936.  According to Neste, Milkybar contains no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives.

10) Boost

Indians will have fond memories of this brand as Boost is a nutritional drink which is manufactured in the form of a powder which is to be mixed with milk and consumed.  Boost is marketed as an energy supplement drink for growing children.  Indians will have fond memories of Sachin Tendulkar saying “Boost is the secret of my energy” prompting millions of children to choose Boost over other competing brands.

Top 10 Brands Owned By Coca Cola

Almost every person will have drank a cold glass of fizzy cola topped with ice cubes to quench their thirst in Summer.  When anyone says cola, there is almost undoubtedly only one brand which comes to their mind and that is the iconic Coca Cola with its red and white branding.  Coca Cola was a concoction invented by a pharmacist John Stith Pemberton in 1886 and was marketed as a drink that could relieve pain caused by headache.  The name Coca Cola was derived from two of the ingredients which were used in creating Coca Cola, namely Coca leaves and Kola nuts.  Since then, there was no stopping Coca Cola as it spread its wings worldwide.  The brand is so popular that it boasts of a presence in almost every corner of the world. 

When the Coca Cola formula was purchased from the Pemberton heirs by American businessman Asa G. Candler, The Coca-Cola Company was formally founded in 1892.  Fast forward a century later Coca-Cola is a sprawling conglomerate which owns a multitude of brands.  While it would be time consuming to list out every brand owned by Coca-Cola, there are however several brands which stand out.

3) Fanta:

The iconic orange flavoured drink Fanta is also one of the most easily recognizable brands worldwide.  Interestingly Fanta originated as a substitute for Coca-Cola during the American trade embargo on Nazi Germany in 1940.  This trade embargo affected the availability of Coca-Cola ingredients in Germany prompting  Max Keith, the head of Coca-Cola Deutschland (Coca-Cola GmbH), to create a new product for the German market, using only ingredients available in Germany at the time.

4) Sprite:

Sprite was originally developed under the brand name Fanta Klare Zitrone (Clear Lemon Fanta,) a lime and lemon based soft drink.  However, the drink was renamed to Sprite in the United States of America in 1961 as a competitor to Pepsi’s 7Up.

5) Thums Up:

Thums Up is a cola flavour which is created specifically for the Indian palette. Thums Up was created in 1977, after the American company Coca-Cola withdrew from India, due to regulations requiring it to disclose its formula.  Thums Up enjoys a huge market share in India because of the spices used in its creation making it an Indian favourite.

6) Minute Maid:

Minute Maid was the first company to market orange juice concentrate, allowing it to be distributed throughout the United States and served year round.  The brand grew in popularity among the American public before Coca-Cola Company purchased it in 1960.

7) Dasani:

Following the success of Pepsi’s bottled water brand Aquafina, Coca-Cola launched its own line of bottled water named as Dasani.

8) Kinley:

Kinley is another brand owned by Coca-Cola which manufactures bottled water as well as carbonated water with a wide variety of flavours which could be used as mixers.

Loren Gray started out on Musical.ly and has pivoted onto TikTok and is widely regarded as a powerhouse.  Loren hails from the United States of America and earns around $ 42,000 per post and has 42 million followers.

3) Zach King

Zach King is a famous YouTuber who makes some innovative edited videos which look like he is performing visual illusions.  Zach was able to leverage TikTok where he has 41 million followers and is able to net around $ 41 million per post.

4) Riyaz Afreen 

The only Indian on the top five list, Riyaz Afreen is a fashion influencer and actor who posts lip syncing and duet videos on his TikTok account.  Riyaz earns a net amount of $ 35,000 per post and has 36 million followers on tikTok.

5) Addison Rae

Addison Rae is one of the fastest growing stars on TikTok and has 36 million followers and has an estimated net earning of $ 35,000 per post making her one of the top five highest earning stars on TikTok.

Gil Croes is a famous model, actor and influencer and shares a YouTube channel named CroesBros with his brother Jayden Croes.  Gil has 27.9 million followers on TikTok and has an estimated net earning of $ 26,000 per post.

Arishfa Khan is the second Indian to feature on the top ten highest earning TikTok stars and has 28.3 million followers on TikTok.  Arishfa usually does lip syncing videos, skits and singing videos on her account and has an estimated net earnings of $ 24,000 per post.

10)  Kristen Hancher

Kristen Hancher is the tenth highest earning star on TikTok and is a model and actress.  Kristen has millions of followers on YouTube and Instagram as well and earns an estimated net earning of $ 24,000 per post.  Kristen has 24.4 million followers on her TikTok account.
